"You saw her beauty, but not the iron underneath." - Eddard Stark

I wanted to make this picture for a long time now, ever since I made my Rhaegar Targaryen picture. In a way I'm more happy with this one and in a way I'm not. First let me introduce the character to those who do not know her. Lyanna Stark is known as the She-Wolf, sister of Brandon and Eddard Stark in the  'A Song of Ice and Fire' book series and Game of Thrones TV series. Robert Baratheon talks about her in the first book/episode when he and Ned are in the Stark crypt. He describes how Rhaegar abducted her and abused her, though we mainly hear this from him. Others describe Rhaegar as an honourable man. So there's two sides to the story here. The tournament of Harrenhal Rhaegar
laid the blue winter rose laurel of the queen of beauty in her lap, which was her favourite flower. The book describes how "all the smiles died" that moment. Not long after the tournament the two of them disappeared, which resulted in Robert's rebellion. Later she was found in the Tower of Joy in the red mountains of Dorne by her brother Eddard, telling him three final words as she died, "Promise me, Ned". These words have been driving readers of the books crazy of what exactly Lyanna wanted Ned to promise. One of the theories is that she wanted to be buried in the crypts of Winterfell, though there are other theories. But I won't tell them to avoid large spoilers.

About the picture, I used Jessica Brown Findlay's (Downton Abbey) likeness as Lyanna Stark. There were many other candidates I thought of, such as Kate Beckinsale and Jennifer Connolly. But Lyanna is described to be a strong woman of will and imo also of physique as she was a skilled horse rider. I didn't want to dress her up in a really beautiful dress made out of silk, as I couldn't picture her wearing them. But despite Starks wearing attire with very natural colours, I thought it was of essence to put her in a blue dress. As you also often see her wearing a crown made out of blue roses, I didn't want to leave that out on the picture here either. The Tower of Joy is often depicted as a simple round tower. I searched around to find a tower of simple design and transfered it to a new background that could imitate the red mountains of Dorne.

I really like that you used Jessica Brown Findlay as Lyanna.Nod  I know some people on Tumblr use Adelaide Kane but she has obvious brown eyes and doesn't have a Stark-looking face like Jessica does. No, I disagree!
